Remembering Tab Williams


A. Tab WilliamsThe dedicated business leader, philanthropist and longtime member of Wake Forest Baptist’s Board of Visitors died at his home on Oct. 25.

Beginning in 1963, he led A.T. Williams Oil Co. (later WilcoHess, LLC) to tremendous success over 50 years, growing the company from six gas stations to hundreds of locations, travel centers and restaurants, and eventually employing more than 6,500 people.

He also served on the boards of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Winston-Salem Business Inc., Winston-Salem Foundation, BB&T, Senior Services, Hospice and Palliative Care Center, and the Salvation Army.

Known for his hard work, Williams once said, “I never thought of it as work. Life is too short to do something that you don’t enjoy.”
